Eidos invites David Cameron to Exclusive TRU Preview Event
Following His Comments This Week (July 18, 2008)

Strange PR stunt to get Conservative Party Leader David Cameron to turn up at a preview event. As if. Other Party Leaders extended similar invitation

In an interview published in the Guardian newspaper this week (15th July 2008), Conservative Leader David Cameron compared taking his party to a second stage of modernisation to moving beyond level one of Tomb Raider.

The Guardian revealed David Cameron compared the opening level of the original Tomb Raider to the way he’s tried to transform his party’s image. The paper said: “The first level required him to prove ‘you are a reasonable, decent, non-discriminating, sensible, practical person who understands the world as it is lived today, who wants to live in a modern world and who accepts what that means’.”

As Eidos Interactive is about to unveil the latest installment in the record-breaking series, the publisher has extended a formal invitation for the Conservative Leader to attend next week’s media unveiling at 11:00am on Wednesday 23rd July at The Hospital, Covent Garden.

“We’re delighted to hear that David Cameron is talking to today’s voters using Tomb Raider as an analogy,” says Jon Brooke, UK Head of Marketing, Eidos Interactive. “As we build up towards launch, we’d be really pleased to offer him an exclusive look at the latest Lara Croft adventure, so he can see for himself how the series has evolved – and maybe come up with some high definition political parallels. Of course, both Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg are equally welcome, provided they all sit together nicely.”

The latest stage in Tomb Raider: Underworld will be unveiled to the press next Wednesday. To reserve your place, please contact Sarah.Hartland@bhpr.co.uk

Tomb Raider: Underworld will release simultaneously on Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Wii™, PlayStation®2, Nintendo DS, and PC Games for Windows platforms on 21st November 2008. With development led by Crystal Dynamics, developers of the recent Tomb Raider blockbusters, Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Tomb Raider: Underworld takes players on an epic adventure, where they will face greater challenges and choices than ever before.

Lovejoy is a legend, and he'll be showing it for the first time on telly this weekend.
Tomb Raider: Underworld trailer launches exclusively on BBC Two's Something for the Weekend and The Sun online this weekend

Eidos Interactive, creator of some of the world’s leading videogame properties, can today reveal it will be exclusively showcasing the very first trailer for its hugely anticipated game, Tomb Raider: Underworld, on the BBC’s Something for the Weekend. The Sun online will exclusively feature the trailer on Saturday from 6pm (www.thesun.co.uk).

Tomb Raider: Underworld sees Lara undertake her riskiest mission yet, descending to the depths of the underworlds. For generations, stories have been told of the fearsome weapon of the Norse god, Thor. For more than a thousand years it has existed only as a myth…until now.

In an ancient ruin on the floor of the Mediterranean Sea, Lara Croft uncovers proof of the Norse underworld and the mythical hammer. As Lara attempts to unravel the secrets behind these myths, her perilous journey leads to a forgotten power that, if unleashed, could lay waste to all civilization.

As a fearless adventurer, Lara Croft explores exotic locations around the world, each designed with an incredible attention to detail, resulting in breathtaking high-definition visual fidelity that creates a truly believable world and delivers a new level of challenge and choice.

“Eidos is really excited to exclusively launch the debut trailer for Tomb Raider: Underworld on Something for the Weekend this Sunday. Gymnastic Champion Becomes the New Face of Lara Croft (August 12, 2008)

Croydon's Alison Carroll selected to be Lara Croft's new "face".

In her latest incarnation the new Lara Croft isn't just a pretty face - as a former gymnastic representative for Great Britain, she's now got the all action skills to match.

Athletic and agile, 23 year old Alison Carroll from Croydon is set to be catapulted from her current job as a receptionist to a world of superstardom as she follows in the footsteps of Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie and model Nell McAndrew to become the new face of Lara Croft.

Unlike her predecessors Alison does not come from a modelling background, but with 12 years' experience as a professional display gymnast, she is completely at ease at the thought of appearing in front of thousands of screaming Lara Croft fans. She certainly had no trouble impressing the judges when she competed against hundreds of other hopefuls in the search to find the live model of the action heroine.

Alison is an elite gymnast who has flown the flag for Great Britain. She has performed across the UK and overseas as part of a team of twenty athletes, wowing Prince Charles when she appeared at a special event at Westminster Abbey. She is also a dedicated coach of younger gymnasts, and recently choreographed the routine for the junior team that won the British National Championships.

Alison already follows a rigorous training regime, visiting the gym six times per week, and will be well prepared as she embarks on the fast and gruelling training programme required to portray sexy heroine Lara Croft. Starting immediately she will undertake a series of courses which will include a SAS survival, combat and semi-automatic weapon firing courses in Eastern Europe, and a crash course in world archaeology, to become the world famous, archaeologist and action heroine.

Once completely trained in the ways of video gaming's leading lady, Alison will be lining up a host of international modelling assignments, starring in TV commercials, appearing on chat shows and is set to travel the globe over the coming months.

Alison Carroll says; "This is a fantastic opportunity and I am really looking forward to embracing Lara's world" said Alison Carroll "I still can't believe they chose me to take on the role of Lara - and I can't wait to get stuck in. This is my dream job - I have always wanted to be an action hero and hope to be able to use my gymnastic ability to perform all of Lara's stunts. It is slightly daunting but I am really excited at the same time."

Sarah Hoeksma, Eidos Group Marketing Director says; "With her tremendous athletic ability, dance training and striking look we feel Alison embodies all the assets required to be the live model of Lara Croft, and we are really looking forward to working with her."

Alison follows in the footsteps of previous Lara Croft stars, Karima Adebibe, Lucy Clarkson, Rhona Mitra, Nell McAndrew, Lara Weller and of course Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raider movies.

Tomb Raider: Underworld marks the first game in this popular, recognisable series that is designed specifically for next generation consoles. Lara Croft uncovers proof of the existence of the mythical hammer of the Norse God Thor, a weapon rumored to have the power to smash mountains into valleys and destroy the Gods themselves.

Setting an epic journey around the globe in motion, Lara visits the ruins of ancient civilizations, collecting clues that lead her to a forgotten power that could lay waste to civilization. Exploiting the power and capabilities of next generation consoles, Lara must hunt for clues across massive environments, solving multifaceted puzzles, facing foes both animal and supernatural, this time with the aid of enhanced weapons and abilities.

New Real-World Lara Croft Makes Her Debut for Tomb Raider: Underworld (August 17, 2008)

Gymnast Alison Carroll to Assume the Role of Famed Videogame Adventurer

Eidos Interactive Ltd., creator of some of the world's leading videogame properties, today revealed that seasoned gymnast Alison Carroll will be the new face of famed videogame character Lara Croft. Carroll will portray the internationally recognized heroine for the next year, with her first appearances to be made promoting the latest installment to the gaming franchise, Tomb Raider: Underworld, which ships November 2008.

Featuring the essential characteristics at the core of Lara Croft's personality -- brawn, brains and beauty -- Alison Carroll particularly complements this iteration of Ms. Croft. Tomb Raider: Underworld is the first Tomb Raider game designed to reflect the physical athleticism and real-world skills required of a world-class adventurer. With an all-new engine built specifically to exploit the capabilities of the latest game consoles, Tomb Raider: Underworld depicts Lara as we have never seen her before with movements and skills reminiscent of a highly skilled gymnast. Sharing Lara's strength and grace, Alison is an experienced competitive gymnast who has performed and competed across the globe. Her more than 12 years of gymnastics training align perfectly with the game's enhanced movement set.

Throughout her adventure in Tomb Raider: Underworld, Lara faces challenges unlike anything she's experienced in the past, putting her own training to the ultimate test. In preparation for this role, Alison is embarking on a regime that includes survival, combat and semi-automatic weapons training, as well as world archeology coursework, all of which complement the mythology and exploration themes at the heart of the Tomb Raider franchise. Alison is also enjoying special early access to the highly anticipated Tomb Raider: Underworld to study Lara's movements, techniques and personality as a next generation gaming heroine.

"This is a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to embracing Lara's world," said Alison Carroll. "It's unbelievable how realistic her movements are in Tomb Raider: Underworld and it's so gratifying to be able to use my years of gymnastic training to portray such a beloved character."

"With her tremendous athletic ability and striking look, we feel Alison embodies the spirit and strength of Lara Croft," said Robert A. Lindsey, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Eidos Inc. "We're excited to be working with her for the launch of Tomb Raider: Underworld and beyond, and can't wait to see the reactions of Tomb Raider fans around the world to Alison's uncannily realistic portrayal of Lara."
